NEW Pride Agenda Slams Trump Administration’s Removal of Pride Flag from Stonewall National Monument

(February 10, 2026) –– The NEW Pride Agenda, New York State’s leading LGBTQIA+ advocacy organization, issued the following statement criticizing the Trump administration’s removal of a large Pride Flag from the Stonewall National Monument:

“The Trump administration’s decision to strip the Stonewall National Monument of its Pride Flag is not some isolated, petty act — it follows an earlier move to whitewash Stonewall by scrubbing references to the trans community. What began as an effort targeted at the trans community has since broadened to encompass all people who represent the ‘other’: the entire LGBTQ+ community. This is a deliberate, strategic campaign to erase us.

Stonewall is a living testament to New York’s history, to our indelible status as the birthplace of the queer liberation movement. Our leaders must live up to these values, and we must all refuse to comply with this politics of intimidation and invisibility.

“At the NEW Pride Agenda, we remain committed to honoring that legacy not just with symbols, but with action. We do that by demanding dignity and respect for our community — in solidarity with many others who’ve been wrongfully targeted by this administration — and by moving forward in proud defiance of every attempt to push us into the shadows.”
